Combining reconceptualization with an embodied, somatic approach using breath, awareness, mindfulness, regulation, and movement offers many doorways into the system.
For someone living with chronic pain, their needs can change from one moment to the next. As practitioners, we need to have a wide range of tools to choose from so we can offer them what’s best at any given moment.
A person lives in and with their bodies 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Teaching your patients to become their own best expert can help them move from fear to embracing activities, movement, and reengaging in life with curiosity and interest.
Pain is changeable and everyone is capable of learning to work with their pain. As a health care practitioner, movement teacher or bodyworker you are uniquely equipped to teach people the tools needed to start changing their relationship to pain and to change pain itself.
This Introductory Course Will Discuss:
- Compassion, rather than mechanical dysfunction, as the heart of your therapeutic choices
- How alleviation of suffering from chronic pain is about more than choosing the right technique or fixing broken parts, it’s about recognizing what IS working and how to expand on that
- Changing the focus from doing with external actions to deepening interoceptive and neuroceptive awareness in yourself as a gateway to expanding your ability to help others.
- Guiding your patients to use interoception and neuroception to engage with and influence their nervous system responses to ultimately increase resilience and choice
- How to adapt your interaction with patients recognizing that every aspect of a person’s life affects, and is affected by, living with pain
- Becoming equal partners with your patients and embracing therapeutic humility rather than the ‘power-over’ dynamic
- Active listening strategies to engage your patients’ social engagement system and create a safe space for them to share
This Course Is Intended For:
- Health care practitioners, movement teachers, and bodyworkers ready to understand the science behind movement and pain and expand their approach to pain care in clinical practice and in studio
- Practitioners of all types—including DOs, ATs, PTs, OTs, MDs, RNs, psychologists, counselors, yoga and Pilates teachers, yoga therapists, bodyworkers, and fitness professionals interested in integrating creative pain care tools with their persistent pain population
- Health care practitioners, movement teachers, and bodyworkers who want a better understanding of pain and how to integrate various movement and mind/body practices
- Those interested in learning more about current pain care approaches but who do not necessarily work in an environment conducive to implementing the tools effectively so are searching for other HCP’s or programs to refer to
- People living with pain, who want to learn self-care practices, communicate better with their practitioners, and how to become their own best expert
Upon Completion Of This Course, Participants Will:
- Have a deeper appreciation of the complexity, and paradoxically the simplicity, of chronic pain problems
- Have deepened their curiosity and thirst for more knowledge and skills in pain care
- Understand the importance of their own ability to ground and self-regulate to help their patients
- Implement compassion, co-regulation, and therapeutic alliance as part of their treatment strategy
- Treat chronic pain issues more effectively by taking the whole person into consideration
- Have a few quick and easy tools they can implement into their clinical practice immediately
- Get an understanding of how to blend breath, mindfulness, awareness, and movement practices with pain science education

Osteopath, Pain Care Specialist, Therapeutic Pilates, yoga & Somatics instructor
Colleen Jorgensen is an Osteopath and a therapeutic Pilates, yoga and somatics teacher who specializes in pain care. Colleen started dancing at the age of 3 and hasn't stopped exploring movement since!
Colleen’s fascination with how the body moves led her to a B.Sc in Exercise Science with a major in Athletic Therapy from Concordia University in 1995 and a Rehab Pilates certification in 1996. Her love of palpation and curiosity about how the body, mind and spirit are interconnected led her to an Osteopathy degree from Le Collège d'Études Ostéopathiques de Montréal (CEO) in 2005, a yoga teacher certification in 2018 and over 1500 hrs of continuing education courses. In 1997 Colleen founded CORE BASICS - Centre d’Osteopathie et Pilates and was the proud owner of this small, multidisciplinary clinic for 16 years until challenging health issues suddenly changed her path.
In 2017 Stillness in Motion was born. Combining manual therapy with creative, embodied movement, mindfulness, awareness, breath, self-regulation practices and a distinctive, heart centered approach to pain care is what Colleen is best known for. With a Professional Mentorship and Pain Care Aware certification from Pain Care U, ACT for Chronic Pain, Applied Polyvagal Theory and courses through the Neuro Orthopaedic Institute (NOI) of Australia, Colleen’s approach to pain care has been influenced and informed by many leaders in the fields of pain science.
Living with chronic pain herself for over a decade has given Colleen an invaluable perspective on the day-to-day challenges those in pain face. In 2020 her desire to empower people with knowledge, awareness and practical tools inspired the creation of Discover to Recover - Move From Pain to Potential, a 6-week online pain care program. Colleen offers many courses, workshops and teacher trainings in embodied anatomy, somatic movement, and compassionate, creative pain care.
