Resource Package - Qi Gong for Global Remapping
The mind-body connection has been a popular topic over the past decade when looking at treating pain in a clinical setting but it has not always been linked to central pain mechanisms.
When addressing the mind-body connection as a rehabilitation strategy, profiling central pain mechanisms is an important concept.
Utilizing the SAD CLLIFSS strategy in the Level 3a course through Pelvic Health Solutions or the online course, Biopsychosocial REFRAMED: Building a Psychologically-Informed Practice allows clinicians to effectively identify and treat the phenotypes of persistent pain.
Qi Gong is an effective strategy for body image changes in the sensorimotor cortex (changes in the neurotags that produce movement and sensation in a particular joint or body part) because it includes novel, rotary movements that most patients have not previously experienced.
Qi Gong, along with yoga, tai chi, and meditation, also helps to evoke the relaxation response which builds resilience in the nervous system.
Building resilience in the nervous system can lead to less guarding and tension in the muscles, thereby effectively and efficiently addressing tension myalgia (formerly known as trigger points).
This Qi Gong resource package includes 6 curated, therapeutic routines that separately address the lower quadrant of the body, the upper quadrant, breathing mechanics and visceral tension. They are easy to perform, requiring little to no equipment, easy to learn, enjoyable for most patients and easy to prescribe. Using the Embodia platform allows you to prescribe these exercises with the click of a button.
- 10 patient exercise routines - 6 Qi Gong videos and 4 Qi Gong audio resources
- There is a new, shorter version (15 minutes) of the lower and upper Qi Gong for those challenged to commit to a 20-minute routine; these shorter routines are also offered without music in the background for post-concussion symptoms where excess auditory processing is challenging
- Lifetime access to the resources

Carolyn and her daughters have launched a brand-new teaching company in 2020 called Reframe Rehab. The mission of this company is to break down the silos in clinical practice between musculoskeletal pain, pelvic pain, pain biology education, and psychology by providing timely, cost-effective, live, online learning opportunities from the world's leading clinical educators on these topics.
Important Information about Resource Packages on Embodia:
This course is a resource package. A resource package is not a complete online course. Rather, resource packages on Embodia contain patient exercises and/or education which can be prescribed with patients directly through Embodia.
Carolyn is the co-owner of Reframe Rehab, a teaching company engaged in breaking down the barriers internationally between pelvic health, orthopaedics and pain science. Carolyn has practiced in orthopaedics and pelvic health for the past 37 years. She is a McKenzie Credentialled physiotherapist (1999), certified in acupuncture (2002), and obtained a certificate in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) in 2017.
Carolyn received the YWCA Women of Distinction award (2004) and the distinguished Education Award from the OPA (2015). Carolyn was recently awarded the Medal of Distinction from the Canadian Physiotherapy Association in 2021 for her work in pelvic health and pain science.
Carolyn has been heavily involved in post-graduate pelvic health education, research in lumbopelvic pain, speaking at numerous international conferences and writing books and chapters for the past twenty years in pelvic health, orthopaedics and pain science.
